We are not going to print a rate, and here is the honest reason: the same family can be quoted wildly different figures depending on hours, timing and level of help, and a number without those is marketing rather than information.
It is priced by the hour and varies with how many hours you need, whether any of them are overnight or continuous, and how much hands-on personal care is involved. A few hours a week is a very different figure from around-the-clock care. How many hours. The obvious one, and the one families overestimate. Most start with far fewer than they feared.
When those hours are. Overnight and continuous care cost more than daytime hours, because staffing them is genuinely harder and nobody works twenty-four hours straight.
How much hands-on care. Companionship and light housekeeping is not the same service as bathing, transfers and incontinence care.
Where you are. Travel time is real. A short daily visit forty minutes from the office is not workable at the same rate as one in town, which is why longer shifts are usually recommended further out.
Not by buying less care — by buying it better:
A good one will give you a realistic range once they understand the situation. Be wary of a firm quote before anyone has asked how many hours, what time of day, and what help is actually needed — that number will change.
Most agencies have one, because sending a caregiver across town for forty-five minutes does not work for anybody. Ask on the call; the practical answer depends on where you live.
Long-term care insurance can cover a substantial share if the policy applies. Medicare does not cover ongoing non-medical home care, and we do not bill Medicare or Medicaid.
Usually a concentrated block at the hardest part of the day, two or three times a week, combined with the free services you may already qualify for.
