Personal care assistance

Help with the parts of the day that got hard.

Bathing. Dressing. Getting to the bathroom without being afraid of falling. These are the things people stop asking for help with long before they stop needing it. Our caregivers handle them the way family would — quietly, respectfully, and without making anyone feel like a patient.

What is personal care assistance?

Personal care assistance is hands-on, non-medical help with daily activities at home: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, incontinence care, transfers, and walking safely. In Las Cruces, Personal Touch Home Care provides it hourly or around the clock through trained, background-checked caregivers — so an older adult can stay in their own home instead of moving into a facility.

What personal care covers

Bathing, showering & grooming

Shower or bed bath, hair, shaving, oral care, nail care, and skin checks — done on a schedule that keeps dignity intact, not on the clock's schedule.

Dressing & daily routine

Choosing clothes, getting dressed, and keeping the shape of a normal day: up in the morning, changed, fed, and ready to see people.

Toileting & incontinence care

Discreet help with the bathroom, briefs, catheter bags left in place by a nurse, and clean-up — handled without commentary and without shame.

Transfers, walking & fall safety

Safe transfers from bed to chair to bathroom, gait-belt assistance, walker and wheelchair support, and a caregiver in the room during the highest-risk minutes of the day.

Medication reminders

Prompting at the right time, watching that pills are actually taken, and telling the family when a dose gets missed. We remind — we do not administer or adjust medication.

Meals, hydration & light housekeeping

Cooking to a doctor's or family's guidance, sitting with someone while they eat, keeping fluids up, and keeping the living space clean and walkable.

Who this is usually for

Adults recovering from a hospital stay or a fall, people living with arthritis, Parkinson's, stroke effects, or early to mid-stage dementia, and anyone whose family has quietly started doing the bathing themselves and can't keep doing it alone.

Common questions

Is personal care the same as home health care?

No. Home health care is skilled medical care ordered by a physician and delivered by nurses or therapists. Personal care assistance is non-medical help with daily living. Personal Touch Home Care provides personal care and companion care only — we do not provide nursing, wound care, injections, or physical therapy.

Can a caregiver help my mother shower if she's resistant?

Often, yes — resistance is usually about embarrassment or fear of falling, not about the shower. Our caregivers are trained to slow down, keep someone covered, and build the routine over several visits. Tell us on the first call and we will plan for it.

Do you provide care overnight?

Yes. We staff hourly visits, overnight shifts, and full 24-hour care in Las Cruces and the surrounding area, including weekends and holidays. Call (575) 639-3341 to talk through a schedule.
