Our caregivers

The people who will be in your home.

You're not hiring an agency — you're letting someone into your loved one's life. That's why we screen, train, and choose every caregiver the way we'd choose one for our own mother.

State & federal background checked Certified caregiver training 10–15 years of experience Bilingual English / Spanish staff
What we require

Every caregiver meets this — before their first shift.

Background checked — local, state & federal

Every caregiver clears a fingerprint-based criminal history screening through the New Mexico Department of Public Safety and the FBI, in line with the New Mexico Caregivers Criminal History Screening Act. We re-screen whenever the law requires it.

Certified caregiver training

Formal training comes before placement: client safety, transfers and mobility, infection control, personal care and dignity, nutrition, and recognizing an emergency — plus client-specific orientation before anyone steps into your home.

10–15 years of hands-on experience

Our caregivers are not learning on your family. Most have been doing this work for ten to fifteen years — they have seen dementia, recovery from a fall, end of life, and the ordinary good day.

Health clearance & TB screening

TB screening and general health clearance are required before client contact and kept current — a basic protection for older adults, who carry the most risk.

CPR & first aid

Current CPR and first aid certification, so the first minutes of an emergency belong to someone who knows exactly what to do.

Continuing education every year

Training doesn't end at hire. Every caregiver completes documented in-service hours each year — dementia care, fall prevention, medication safety, and communicating with families under stress.

The New Mexico standard

We know exactly what the state requires — and we don't stop at the minimum.

What New Mexico law asks of in-home caregivers

Most families don't know what to ask. Here it is — so you can ask us the hard questions, and ask them of any other agency you're considering.

  • Fingerprint-based background screening. The New Mexico Caregivers Criminal History Screening Act (NMSA 29-17-1 et seq.) requires a state DPS and FBI check for caregivers in health care and community settings. As of July 1, 2025, the disqualifying-offense list expanded to include human trafficking, identity theft, animal cruelty, and assault on a peace officer.
  • 18 or older, with a high school diploma or GED. Plus identity and work-eligibility documentation.
  • Homemaker Personal Care Aides: 40 hours of initial training. Two hours of agency orientation and eight hours of client-specific training before providing any services; the remaining 30 hours within the first year.
  • Home Health Aides: 75 initial hours. 59 didactic plus 16 clinical hours, with a competency evaluation — written test and skills demonstration observed by an RN or LPN.
  • Annual continuing education. 10 documented in-service hours a year for personal care aides; 12 hours a year for home health aides.
  • TB screening and health clearance before client contact, kept current.

An honest note: Personal Touch Home Care serves private clients, not Medicare or Medicaid, and private-pay agencies in New Mexico are not held to the same state-mandated training-hour minimums. We hold to them anyway. We think the family paying out of pocket deserves exactly the same standard — not a lesser one.

Meet the team

Named by our own families.

We didn't pick who to feature. These are the caregivers our clients named themselves, in the letters they wrote us.

Gabby

Caregiver

Named in two separate client letters. One family credits her with help through medications, showers, and meals; another says simply that Gabby “does a wonderful job.”

Lucy

Caregiver

Remembered in a client's letter for the things that appear on no care plan — sitting down to talk, and making a long day feel shorter.

Efren Saavedra

Caregiver

One client wrote in to say the work gets done “quickly and correctly, with friendly people” — and named Efren while saying it.

Want to meet your caregiver before you commit? We'd prefer it. Before care begins we sit down with you, talk through your loved one's personality and routine, and match the right person — not simply the next one available. If the match isn't right, we change it.
Want to join them?

We're always looking for good caregivers.

If you have experience, patience, and a heart for this work, we'd like to meet you. Complete the application online, or download the printable PDF.
